  • 2D 2ND PLACE AWARD for “JUBILATION - SCOTLAND”

ARTIST – Mr. Michael Mahue Moore is “Born and Raised” on the North side of St. Louis, Missouri.  Mr. Moore began his debut in the creative world on day when he was just a small lad of five years of age, while visiting his grandparent’s home in Albany, Georgia.

They were about to go home to begin the school year when he noticed an uncle free handing a cartoon character named “Yacky Doodle” whom he often watched on Saturday morning. Mr. Moore asked, “Wow can we all do that?” His uncle, who wasn’t but two years his senior said in his “Yacky Doodle” voice, “Sure Chopper, if you want to.”

Mr. Moore couldn’t wait to get home and try out this new toy. He took a comic book, looked at the images and while looking through the book he noticed an ad on the back of the comic book that read: “Draw Lucky”. He drew Lucky so well that Art Linkletter called his house and offered him a scholarship to learn to draw at one of his studios.

Well, this didn’t sit well with his mother, and she declined, but Mr. Moore persisted and began drawing the characters in the Marvel Comic Books. At the age of six he could draw the Hulk, Captain America, Wanda the Witch, the Silver Surfer and his favorite hero to draw was the only Black hero in the comics at the time “Power-Man”. He knew that they were good because his brother began stealing them out of his collection and selling them for lunch money, until he caught him.

Mr. Moore attended the Visual and Performing Arts High School (home of the Falcons) where he met a woman named Billie. Ms. Billie Phillips was his favorite teacher in the building. As his art teacher she never paid attention to him as a freshman, but always said, “Class, draw big and bold. Don’t be those little puny faces. I want to see your work!” By his senior year Mr. Moore was the most effective artist in school. Landscapes, people and still lifes were his specialties.

Mr. Moore used to say that at home art wasn’t considered something that would cause one to earn an income, but at school Ms. Phillips taught Mr. Moore that art was the actual key to open all the doors to all the destinations that he could dream of. So, he continued painting.

Mr. Moore was as equally talented in athletics as he was an artist. He excelled in basketball, cross country and baseball. Mr. Moore earned an academic scholarship after scoring exceptionally high on the SAT battery. He also had several baseball scholarships offers but decided to take the academic scholarship and major in Graphic Designs at Savannah College of Art and Designs. Better known as SCAD to most.

Being under the tutelage of Ms. Phillips, Mr. Moore was over-prepared for college. He would create his lessons in fifteen minutes and receive an “A” for his efforts. He knew that he needed some stability, so after a few years he enlisted in the US Navy. The Navy took him to places such as the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, California, and The Mariannas Island. Here is an interesting tidbit. Did you know that Mr. Moore was a boxing champ on the island of Guam for two straight years, until he was relocated to another duty station? He proudly served the military for eight years with an Honorable discharge.

Mr. Moore taught art in his studio to more than 70 children and adults for a period of time while he lived in Birmingham, Alabama. He is an accomplished Mural artist and has held positions as Birmingham Art Association, Vice-President of Membership. Through his efforts more than 75 families joined the first month of his term in the position. He is the brainchild  of programs such as “Random Act of Art”, “Art Walk”, “Art in the Park”, “Critique” and “One Student, One Professional Artist”.

He is the proud Daddy of Two daughters, four grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Moore is currently residing locally in Las Vegas, NV since 2022 in the lovely RHODES RANCH subdivision. When he is not painting and creating, he has worked in the Computer Industry for the last forty-four years.  Merchant Mariner, serving as a Master Electronic Officer onboard USNS Naval, Army and Marine vessels.

    Discover more at https://linktr.ee/jeanettemontero.art

ARTIST- Statement - My brightly colored mixed-media paintings feature a joyful variety of patterns and textures. They are inspired by my appreciation of commonplace objects or scenes, such as the shapes of leaves, the wrinkles on an elephant's skin, a butterfly’s wings, or the fleeting hues of a sunset. I cast a spotlight on ordinary or overlooked forms of beauty.

I use a variety of art mediums, such as alcohol ink and resin, as well as unconventional tools like Q-tips or firepit glass, in a process that is spontaneous and allows for a certain degree of random outcome. This interplay of the planned and unplanned becomes a dialogue between myself and the canvas, during which I experience a range of emotions - joy, frustration, triumph, tragedy, failure, elation - mimicking the ups and downs of life. The results are unpredictable and dynamic artworks that keep me excited about the process and the outcome.

At the heart of it, my paintings express my gratitude for life’s blessings, and aim to spread happiness to those who see them. They are my interpretation of God's creativity and hopefully, serve as a reminder to embrace joy and gratitude in our daily lives.

  • HONORABLE MENTION AWARD for “ANGELICA”

ARTIST - Renata Bosnjak was born in Bosnia and Hercegovina in 1976 and currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. She understood the essence of beauty from a very young age, and thus painted her first painting at seven years old; a girl holding a dog. Growing up, Renata always heard stories about her grandfather, an Austrian-German man with an affinity for art. Even though she never met him, those stories carried her through her passion. She continues evolving through all of her personal and professional experiences, developing her love for her craft; and mastering her Artistry.

Renata's art has been in many gallery exhibitions including the Laguna Art Gallery, the Vegas Wonderland Gallery, and New York Art. Her work was displayed in a solo exhibitions by Gallery Steiner, in Vienna, Austria and at Summerlin Art Gallery, curated by Darren Johnson. She has received several awards from critically acclaimed art curators including the Frida Kahlo International Prize award and the International Prize of New York City. Her art has been published in several books and magazines including Current Masters, among others.

  • HONORABLE MENTION AWARD for “MALE GLAZE”

ARTIST - I've always been surrounded by photography. My grandfather operated a rural small-town's local photography studio (he specialized in gauzy, hand-tinted portraits of Gladiolus Festival Queens and beaming brides). He had a shingle hung in front of his house announcing "E.Butterfield Photography," so I come by the name honestly. My great-uncle was a photo analyst in WWII, and my father was a staff photographer for a suburban Chicago newspaper for many years after he retired.

For a while, I was obsessed with Steampunk-themed photography, and took a strange delight in dressing up models in pseudo-Victorian clothing and equipping them with mostly hand-made eye-wear, props and weapons, all of which looked like something Jules Verne might have designed during a fever dream. The accessories and props I created were made to appear old, rusty, and battered, and I manipulated the images to make them look like something that had been forgotten in a workshop or the back of a drawer for a century or two. My models were primarily male, and their pseudo-Victorian clothing was frequently minimal, launching a new niche of "steampunk beefcake" that sent ripples of both delight and outrage through the  community. I published a couple of books of Steampunk photography, complete with fictional biographies of the "characters" my models and I had created.

Over time, though, I learned that my aesthetic vision was not strictly anchored to the weirdly neo-Victorian, but was in fact simply...weird. I have thrown myself enthusiastically (and sometimes messily) into creating unique props, headgear, accessories, and eyewear with no discernable usefulness. Elaborate Steampunk goggles evolved into just strange facial appliances. And my work became significantly odder, darker, and more (artfully) erotic than when I started. I've been fortunate in finding my models (or being found by them), and they're usually enthusiastic about something unique for their portfolios. I've become fairly obsessed by the use of selective color, both for its dramatic effect and for how it equalizes the model and the prop as distinct parts of the artistic whole.

I'm a retired attorney and have held reasonably responsible and respectable jobs in education, publishing, and managing most of a nonprofit scientific association's products and operations.  After retiring from the publishing world, I have been teaching an online criminal intellectual property course at Arizona State University for five years. I still have a weird (and perhaps selfish) fascination with intellectual property law, especially as it applies to creative works. I'm the author of Copyright for Creatives, a practical, informal, and hopefully entertaining guide to copyright law for creative people who make stuff, now in its second edition. I live in Summerlin with my husband (who gave me my first Nikon more years ago than I'd care to discuss) and a cat, who tolerates the disruption caused by my photoshoots.

  • HONORABLE MENTION AWARD for “MYSTERIOUS HISSER”

ARTIST - Wendy Ann discovered Chinese Brush painting in 1991 and has been addicted ever since. She joyfully came under the tutelage of Nan Rae in Burbank and quickly discovered the “Guru” of Chinese Brush Painting for Southern California, Ning Yeh who founded the American Association of Chinese Brush Painters. She also studied Calligraphy with George Huang until he returned to China.

The Chinese Brush Painting of Wendy Ann reflect her understanding of rhythm and harmony captured by her deft and rapid brush strokes, “Chinese Brush Painting is about line and movement through space, executed from the heart.”

Wendy Ann’s use of space is the unifying and harmonizing element of her paintings. In Chinese Painting “space” is a spiritual solid with its own life.

“Wendy’s brush, swift and sure, creates a dance of its own expressing a joyful freedom of movement.” (Nan Rae)

Because of her dance background, Wendy Ann quickly found this art form translated to movement on paper. Chinese Brush Painting requires posture, position, and specific brush holding techniques as well as precise execution of movement. She finds the art to be a balancing act of strength and delicacy, the Ying and Yang, wet and dry brush, boldness and detail, much like the execution of good choreography.

Although a westerner by birth, she began her painting life with Chinese Brush Painting and has found it to be a distint advantage. Not having to unlearn Western techniques freed the artist in her to fully embrace the Eastern Art form.

  • MEMBER’S CHOICE AWARD for “FIRE SKY”

ARTIST - Artist Kimberly Panfil, was born in Chicago & has been a natural born creative artist since the age of 4 yrs old. Her childhood was filled with art, music, dance & her family's strong influence from their Martinique, Drury Lane Theatre, producing plays and giving this young child 'artist' the opportunity to meet so many famous entertainers, watching rehearsals and many plays.

Kimberly quickly developed her art talent, drawing and painting behind the stage. She had no fear of asking questions to learn all she could.  Then learning to sew was fun to make things from her drawings. Watching the costume designers and the play, seamstresses sewing back stage was interesting. Kimberly began sewing, drawing costumes and making pattern designs. At age 12, Kimberly was designing clothing for all her dolls and making her own costumes, accessories, shoes, fashions and creating her own jewelry line for herself and friends. Soon her family's home was full of Kimberly's art and her paintings that her parents were proud of.

Entering High School, Kimberly's art talent and her own creative drawing and painting ability was immediately noticed by her high school counselors and art teachers. At age 14, she was placed in a National Golden Key Art Scholastic Program, to develop her art and a professional art portfolio. Kimberly won several National Golden Key Scholastic 1st Place art awards. Graduating from Thornridge High School, with Honors, on the straight 'A' honor roll, Kimberly was ready to enter a junior college.

Kimberly attended Thornwood Junior College for 2 years, graduating and receiving an AA, Associates Art Degree, in Design and Illustration, Kimberly studied with Professor Margaret Wallace, a Who's Who Painter in American Art. Based on Kimberly's Portfolio, at age 19, Kimberly won a 4 year art scholarship to 'The School of the Art Institute of Chicago', SAIC, where Kimberly graduated with a BFA in Art History & Fine Art, majoring in Art History, Drawing, Painting & Fashion Design, studying with SAIC'S, most profound Painter and Art Professor Elizabeth Ruprecht. Kimberly also studied with Fashion and Textiles designer, American Educator, Professor Leah Bowman, then working with Leah Bowman, as her Fashion Design assistant.

Kimberly's added talent included her creative business side. This artist entrepreneur created her own company called 'B'Yonda Designs' graduating from SAIC in Chicago in the early 1980's. Creating art fashions, one-of-a-kind wedding gowns & accessory designs. Her clientele seen wearing Kimberly's glitzy designs included Oprah Winfrey, Dolly Parton, Paula Abdul, Melanie Griffith, Invana Trump, Cher, Melissa Ethridge, Tanya Tucker, Sheila E, Phyliss Hyman, Katey Sagal & Tammy Fey, to name a few of the entertainers. Kimberly also designed for many Miss America Pageants, contestants and pageant winners. Her designs were in the movies Coming to America, The Untouchables and Straight Talk. Along with a fun line of jewelry she created for Dollywood from her Newberry Plaza design studio.

At that time movie director Michael Mann's mother, Esther Mann, took Kimberly's B'Yonda Designs under her motherly wing in the Chicago Apparel Center, telling Kimberly Panfil she was going to place her designs on the map. And Esther Mann did just that. Esther Mann told Kimberly to bring her designs into her showroom. Kimberly did that one week later. Esther Mann, one of Chicago's TOP fashion and art representatives, was representing Kimberly's art, fashions, jewelry, limited editions and One-of-a-Kinds pieces to the best buyers in the industry, It was non-stop designing for 15 years nationwide.

Kimberly designed glamorous jewelry for Cache' Boutiques and sold her designs in person at several trunk shows for Nordstroms, Saks 5th Avenue, Bullocks and Macy stores. Specialty shops and salons sold  B'Yonda Designs jewelry line and fashion illustrations in couture boutiques throughout America especially in New York, Dallas, Boca Raton, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Malibu, San Francisco, Laguna Beach and Sausalito. B'Yonda Designs could be seen on several TV shows, Married with Children and commercials.

Beyond Kimberly's love to design fashion and jewelry, painting is her true passion. Painting is in her blood and soul. Painting on leather was incorporated in her designs. Painting animal prints. Painting on dance and ballet shoes. Painting dance wear. Painting while dancing. Painting leotards. Painting for rock stars. Painting for many ballerinas. Kimberly understood dancers and how dance wear moved on stage. Kimberly's dance wear was designed and sold.

The art gallery shows and fashion events became a ritual. Artist Kimberly Panfil began coordinating top fashion designer's garments with her accessories and jewelry designs. Show background sets were designed and painted, music was selected, models were chosen, and runways were painted. It became a mood, a feeling to be presented with the garments. Kimberly's art and designs adorned over 175 runways and stages. It was sheer, utter chaos backstage and a sleek, smooth performance to the public.

Kimberly artistic choices did not miss a beat. Her experience with her family's Martinique, Drury Lane Theatre and play rehearsals as a child and teenager taught her a lot. Her past experiences set the rhythm. This artist could see now why she experienced so much entertainment and watched the play directors in rehearsals tell everyone what to do. At age 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, Kimberly watched the producers and directors as she sat in the theatre quietly. She absorbed how to set the stage for ART. For ART shows and performances. In her childhood, she was beginning to be prepared for her future artistic lifestyle.

Everything fell in place. It was all creatively meant to be. Today, Kimberly is a professional artist, painter, colorist, fashion and jewelry designer. This artist is not shy. Strong colors and detail are dominant in her art work. Kimberly mainly creates with 'Soft Pastels, Oils, Acrylics, Gouache, Watercolor, Pen & Ink and Pastel Pencils'. Plein Air painting is her favorite to capture natural light and mother nature's artistic settings. Kimberly's art often relates to painting nature, florals, landscapes and painting anywhere with ease, adding a contemporary flair in most of her paintings. She does not stop there. Kimberly loves painting portraits and people too. You will find Kimberly has a very deep infinity and love for any animal. Kimberly has a special connection with animals and loves to paint magnificent horses, dogs, birds and curious cats.

Then there will always be a place in Kimberly's heart to draw, illustrate and paint fashion. Paint fabrics and paint free form designs. You name it. This diversified artist will never say, "NO", to any type of medium to paint with or any painting style. Being a true artist, creative challenges are simply a part of their life. Just name it, this artist will paint it.

Speaking of ART challenges, talking to Kimberly you will hear her say, "I love teaching art to the person who says they have NO art ability". Kimberly will teach anyone to draw & or paint. Kimberly is a certified 'Grumbacher Acrylic Instructor'. Besides acrylics, she can teach anyone to paint in any art medium. Kimberly will tell you, "I studied Fine Art, Painting, Color Theory, Fashion Design, Pattern Making and Art History with so many students at SAIC, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I received my BFA in Art History, Painting, Color Theory and Fashion Design. I experienced that every person has their own art ability. No person should ever be judged on their art. Art is within you. Art is personal. Art is a feeling of your passion. Life is about finding your creative passion. We are all artists.

  • ARTIST - Edward Achey Is a painter from Las Vegas, Nevada.

About the Artist - I like surprises and finding new ways to lose control of my process. My paintings don’t intentionally convey a deep feeling; they don’t tell a personal story. But they can be evocative and the accidental results can appear to capture some complexity.

Artist Statement/BIO - I’ve been a painter for over 40 years working primarily with acrylic on canvas. My earliest work was driven by psychological expression. My turn-of-the-century paintings were part of my activism toward ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (E.R.A.). Since 2004, my interests are purely non-representational, gestural color explosions. My control is randomness and my process is refined to the point of maturity. I know how to orchestrate happy accidents in my work.

My educational background includes advanced study in psychology and the science of well-being. I took a 7th grade art class, but refused to stop working on my very first project while the rest of the class moved on to tackle other assignments. Decades later, I took a basic drawing class at the College of Southern Nevada taught by fine artist Lisa Mack.

I own easels, but I use them as tables; I want my diluted paint to soak into the canvas laying flat. More recently, I’ve been working with a process that I call ‘Dumpster Residue’ which involves pressing wet painted canvasses face-down into large plastic (Sterilite) tubs like those used by parents to store toys under children’s beds. After drying completely in the tubs, I remove them by force and unexpected outcomes are revealed, often with excess dried paint dangling over the edge of the canvas. Great fun!

Conceptually, Dumpster Residue was inspired by my desire to throw blank canvasses into a busy dumpster for a few days. Not wanting to actually experience the smell, I began to simulate the process using the scentless, plastic tubs.

What’s next? I want to acquire some ornate, antique (gilded) frames and somehow join them with my Dumpster Residue series of paintings. 1000 smiles!

  • ARTIST - Kimberlee is a Henderson-based fine artist crafting narrative works and landscapes with acrylic, oil, and digital paints.

Her path to dedication to painting could accurately be described as meandering. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in English Composition, she dabbled in a few different areas, including law, yoga, graphic design, and branding. Painting was always the outlet she turned to at the end of the day.

Inspired by both the natural and the supernatural, Kimberlee uses color, composition, and symbolism to create stories that explore the human experience. Her style leans into realism but often includes a bit of magic.

  • ARTIST - Sumon Methangkool is a landscape painter living in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1983. Sumon lives on the hill overlooking Las Vegas valley where he can observe the openness, light, color, and all the excitement and drama of nature. The warm glow of last light of the day and serenity of the desert inspire many of his paintings.

A native of Thailand, Sumon has been living in the United States since 1973. Although he has a BFA from a university in Thailand and MFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, Sumon never made a living as an artist. Instead, he worked as an entrepreneur in the restaurant business. A family man, he worked hard to support both his daughters through college. Art, however, has always been his passion. Sumon returns to his easel every chance he gets and has had several one-man shows as well as group shows.

Now at retirement age, Sumon is committed to fulfill his passion to become a full time artist. And on his canvas, he explores deacades of accumulated ideas. His main inspiration comes from his love of nature. He is fascinated by the wide open spaces and the simplicity of the desert southwest, the vastness of the open sky, and the color of the sunlit mountain in the early morning. Moody and atmospheric scenes play a significant role in his paintings.

Although most of his paintings are inspired by the landscape of the southwest, Sumon likes to describe his style as combination of abstraction and impressionism. This combination developed from his interest in European Impressionism and contemporary abstract style. Sumon enjoys the simplicity and loose brush work in his compositions. Some of his work are soft and tonalistic while others are portrayed by exciting and expressive brush strokes. Most of his artwork are not exact representations of specific locations or scenes. Rather, they are a composite, a work of creativity.

If you interested in Sumon’s artwork or would like to know more about his paintings, feel free to contact him.

  • ARTIST -I paint because I love to. I love combining ideas, colors and composition to create something that is pleasing and brings joy to the viewer.  I started painting when my mother gave me a set of watercolor paints when I was older. I started playing with the paints and I found that it was something that I could do with my mom. We went on several workshops including at Yosemite and in rural Wisconsin where my family moved when they immigrated from Norway in the late 1800's.

I have expanded from those first days not only doing watercolor but incorporating other mediums (acrylic, mixed media, pastel and collage) and continuing on my journey to explore how to express my love of painting. Some have called me a "semi-abstract colorist". Throughout my journey, I have met some amazing people, both artists and art lovers, which may be the most rewarding of all.

  • ARTIST - Working mainly with acrylics and oil, my works mirror the beauty and turmoil of life, as I experience and appreciate it. Hence, landscapes, feng shui inspirations, figures, still life and abstract pieces fill my body of works. Being a recent transplant from New York, I am excited to paint, work and grow more with local artists. Having taken up Art Studies and Art Education in college, I dream also of having a lot of spare time to travel to intensively study and do more art. In the meantime, I am enjoying being alive and able to paint from my heart and do wonderful work with my art group, LVAG—when I’m not tending to my food truck and doing the 1,001 errands that mothers do every minute.

Life is very beautiful, with all its joys, challenges and sorrows. As a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister, I have my fair share of life’s ubiquitous fast balls, that could sometimes be too fast that it’s crippling. I am so grateful however, that as an artist, I am able to somehow catch these balls (or at least most of them) and transform them to many different themes, colors, lines and figures in my head and in my canvas. These fast balls, and curve balls that life throws my way, and the quirky, funny and happy everyday scenes I have the privilege of experiencing, motivates me and are the mainstays in my inspiration chest. I may not have the time to make them into art works right away, but the inspiration photographically stays in my head and torments me until I at least make a draft— and a promise to do them.
